Education as a Bipolar and Tripolar Process. It is a systematic process through which the child and adult acquire their knowledge, skills, experiences, attitude. It makes an individual civilized, refined, cultured and educated. For civilized and socialized society, education is the only means. The main goal of education is to an individual perfect. Every society gives importance to education because it is the key to solve many problems of life.

Education as a Bipolar Process:
Education was considered in the past as a uni-polar process. Adams in his Book ‘Evolution of Education Theory’ said that education is a Bi-polar process in which one personality acts upon another to modify the development of other personality.
It considers that in the process of education two people are involved. The one is an educator and the other is educand. It was said that the teacher seeks the modification of the development not only through imparting knowledge and skills but also through the direct influences on the child’s personality.
According to Adams, the bipolar education has two poles. At the one end is the teacher and at the other end is the child. Both are equally important in the process of education. If the teacher gives, the child receives. If the teacher instructs, the child follows. Thus, in the process of education, there is an interaction between the teacher and child. The teacher tries to mould and modify the behaviour of the child so that the latter develops his personality to the full. With the active cooperation of the teacher and child, the process of education goes on smoothly and efficiently.

Teacher-centred learning has the teacher at its centre in an active role and students in a passive, receptive role. 4.Teaching As A Profession
Teaching as a Profession
The continued professionalisation of teaching is a long-standing goal of the Alberta Teachers’ Association. The Association continues to work to
advance teaching as a profession. Professionalism is a complex and elusive concept; it is dynamic and fluid. Six generally accepted criteria are used
to define a profession. The teaching profession in Alberta fulfills those criteria in the following ways:
1. Its members have an organized body of knowledge that separates the group from all others. Teachers are equipped with such a body of
knowledge, having an extensive background in the world and its culture and a set of teaching methods experientially derived through continuous
research in all parts of the world.
2. It serves a great social purpose. Teachers carry responsibilities weighted with social purpose. Through a rigid and self-imposed adherence to
the Code of Professional Conduct, which sets out their duties and responsibilities, teachers pass on their accumulated culture and assist each student
under their care in achieving self-realisation.
3. There is cooperation achieved through a professional organization. Cooperation plays an important role in the development of the teaching
profession because it represents a banding together to achieve commonly desired purposes. The teaching profession has won its well-deserved place
in the social order through continuous cooperation in research, professional preparation and strict adherence to the Code of Professional Conduct,
which obligates every teacher to treat each student within a sacred trust. Teachers have control or influence over their own governance, socialization
into teaching and research connected with their profession.
4. There is a formal period of preparation and a requirement for continuous growth and development. Teachers are required to complete a
defined teacher preparation program followed by a period of induction or internship prior to being granted permanent certification. This period
includes support for the formative growth of teachers and judgements about their competence. Teachers are devoted to continuous development of
their ability to deliver their service.
5. There is a degree of autonomy accorded the professional. Teachers have opportunities to make decisions about important aspects of their work.
Teachers apply reasoned judgment and professional decision making daily in diagnosing educational needs, prescribing and implementing
instructional programs, and evaluating the progress of students. Teacher judgment unleashes learning and creates the basis for experience.
6. The profession has control or influence over education standards, admissions, licensing, professional development, ethical and performance
standards, and professional discipline. As professionals, teachers are governed in their professional relationships with other members, school boards,
students and the general public by rules of conduct set out in the Association’s Code of Professional Conduct. The code stipulates minimum
standards of professional conduct for teachers, but it is not an exhaustive list of such standards.

5. Teacher as nation builders
Teacher plays an important role in the mental development of the students. An accomplished teacher can develop the feeling of nationalism in the students through his teaching style.
The sense of nationalism, on the one hand, makes the students patriots and ideal citizens. On the other hand, it also develops national unity among the students.
The mainstay of education is the teacher. The teacher is not only the builder of the personality of the student but also the builder of the nation.
The embodiment of a nation lies in its citizens. In the development of a
nation, the role of teachers is important. Because teacher is a person who shape the future of it's citizens.

6. Qualities and Competencies of teachers
Teachers possess a strong power in their own capacity to direct the learners in becoming responsible citizens. Their communal hard work act as a driving power by which the goals and objectives of an educational scheme are being achieved. As such, teacher quality must be taken into account to make such goals reachable.
In an unstructured consultation with some administrators as to teacher capability, they considered manner towards work as the most favorable characteristic. Teachers’ personality traits had the greatest influence in moral values development. The student respondents tagged being approachable and responsible among teacher traits as their top priority.

9. Social evils in India
No nation can consider growth without the participation of all segments of society. The development of a nation occurs in the right direction when its citizens, particularly its youths, develop themselves on these ten points: Truth, Glory, Knowledge of Scriptures and Science, Learning, Nobility, Modesty, Strength, Wealth, Valour, and Eloquence.
These principles can only be taught during one’s growing years in school in order to develop a strong personal character as part of one’s internal environment. In this modern world, our lives are bent and tangled by several social evils like global warming, discrimination, terrorism, etc. Education is the only resource we have to handle all these evils, but most children cannot have basic education.
